Information You Submit
Terms Entered in Search Tools
When you type a name, place, or other detail into a search tool, the query passes to the third-party provider that operates that tool. Chesapeake County Released Inmates does not store or log those search terms on its own systems. The provider’s policy governs its receipt and handling of the query.
Emails and Contact Messages
If you email us or submit a contact message, we retain the information needed to read and answer it. We do not share those messages outside the organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Automatic Technical Information
A visit can generate routine technical and usage records. These records help operate the site and reveal broad patterns rather than serving as official Chesapeake inmate or release records. They may include:
- Your Internet Protocol address.
- The browser name and version in use.
- Your device category and operating system.
- Pages opened and time spent on them.
- The referring website, when one is supplied.
- Date and time stamps tied to the request.
Cookies and Browser Controls
Cookies help measure how visitors move through the site and may support site functions or advertising. You can block or delete cookies through browser settings. Some features may work differently or become unavailable when cookies are disabled.
How Information Is Used
Information received through the site may be used to:
- Keep pages available, responsive, and reliable.
- Send a search request to the selected partner service.
- Understand which Chesapeake release-record pages visitors find useful.
- Identify errors, security concerns, and other technical problems.
- Present advertising that may reflect a visitor’s interests.
Privacy Beyond This Site
Links may lead to the Chesapeake Sheriff’s Office, VADOC, courts, release-record sources, government portals, or third-party search services. Once you follow a link, the destination’s own privacy policy and terms control its collection and use of information. Review those terms before submitting personal data.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to recognize activity across websites and select interest-based ads. Any cross-site tracking by those companies occurs through their technology, not through an inmate or release record hosted by this site.
Parties That May Receive Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited information may nevertheless be transmitted or disclosed to:
- Search partners that process a query you submit.
- Analytics providers that measure site use.
- Advertising networks that deliver or measure ads.
- Law enforcement or another government body acting under a valid legal order.
Reasonable Security Measures
We use standard safeguards intended to protect information in our control. No website, connected system, or method of transmission can be guaranteed secure. We therefore cannot promise that a breach, unauthorized access, or loss will never occur.
Adults Only
This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If a parent or guardian believes a minor sent personal data to us, use the Contact Us page to request deletion.
Your Privacy Choices
Subject to applicable law and the information we actually hold, you may:
- Ask for a copy of personal information held about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Ask that eligible information be erased.
- Opt out of certain forms of processing where that choice applies.
